Counseling and Support Programs

While imprisonment alone has not proven effective in stemming crime or keeping people from re-offending, experience shows that if an offender maintains a positive family environment, and has the skills to be successful in that environment, the chances of recidivism diminishes.

Often family members lack the skills to succeed as a family. Families in Crisis works with offenders and their families to resolve the issues, whether they are economic, social or emotional, that negatively affect their relationships with one another. When necessary, we refer them to a vast network of outside resources.

As a result, individuals are better able to assume their family roles and meet their responsibilities to one another.

Program Description

Trained professional counselors provide individual, family, group counseling and case management services to offenders and members of their families. Services are provided at correctional facilities, community programs, agency offices and within client homes.

Counselors focus on the dynamics of the family unit and the significant role that family relationships play to help offenders rebuild their lives. FIC’s services are an important addition to the criminal justice systems' own programs to reduce recidivism and prepare offenders to be productive members of their communities.
